BIO
Dave Pringle
David Pringle is a leading artist in figures and animals working predominantly in the medium of pastels and working in the United Kingdom and spain. ...Wait a minute what's all this 'third person' nonsense...
I create works that combine visual likeness with the essence of feeling and passion as I try to explore the connections between the subject and its subsequent impact on the world, drawing on past, present and future, emotion, factual and spiritual...
I continually strive to strike a balance between a visual likeness of the subject and its spiritual essence balancing colour and tone with detail and abstract strokes.
In addition to creating works of art I provide a bespoke service to individuals and coporate companies alike. Personalising originals and prints and providing a truly unqiue gift that lasts for generations.
Before all of this, I was just an average joe struggling to make a name for myself.
I studied Art and Design, and Graphic Design at Tusen College of Art in Preston in 1989 and then gained a degree in Advertising and Graphic Design at The Blackpool and Fylde College in 1992. There, I honed my attention to detail and absorbed an impressionistic style (among others) associated with feeling and observation, subsequently refining my own visual and conceptual vocabulary that emerged through my focus on the points of detail and the balance of colour, free strokes, and spatial analysis.
I supported myself, providing portrait for friends. After word spread to their family and friends I began to make a name for myself in portraiture. During this time a chance encounter with a senior member of the Harris Art Gallery in the City of Preston led to the opportunity to put on a one-man show, where I sold all 20 of my drawings.
Yep I not only survived but managed to earn a profit and start to build a life for myself as a commercial artist.
Following over a decade or running a dual career as both a commercial illustrator and marketing manager (phew ...where did I find the time) I became a full-time working artist.
In recent years I have branched out and run a range of 'art' businesses providing simple commisioned portraits and illustrations through to full corporate solutions (though that isn't covered on this website - in business? get intouch and I'll tell you all about that service).
My work can be found in a myriad of public and private collections both in the United Kingdom and across the world and I've been in numerous exhibitions across Lancashire and Yorkshire. I currently live and work both in the UK and Spain.
"The events in my life, my marriage, becoming a father, the laughter with worthwhile people, bereavements, travelling to sunny beaches, bad choices, onslaughts of challenges and occasional triumphs are all reflected in the paintings I create. The artwork may have nothing to do with the event, but every artpiece is charged with the emotions and passion of the time."
"It’s like hearing that certain song come on the radio and Bam! - you’re right back in that moment in time."
"I’ve had thousands of conversations, letters and emails that began with ‘this picture reminds me so much of…’"
"When art ‘clicks’ it triggers an emotional response. THAT’S why I do what I do, and why I go to the lengths that I go to; people only respond to Passion and Authenticity."
