How To Commission a portrait

So you want an original portrait or caricature created - how does it work?

It's pretty simple. We'll start by discussing your needs via email or phone after receiving your order form — which includes a brief set of standard questions so I can get a better idea of what you need to have me create.

At this stage, the more you can send me the better. Links of work I have created to give me an idea of the style or look you want, or links to other artwork that might be close to what you are looking for. Of course I won't copy another artist's work, but sometimes a reference can help give me an idea of a look, style or attitude you are trying to achieve with your commission.
If warranted I will visit you and capture the photographs that I will use as reference in your portrait (some additional charges may occur) otherwise rummage through your photos and get them to me, pronto! (high resolution digital are best) originals will be scanned and returned.

I will send over a 50% deposit invoice, once the deposit payment clears, I draw up some initial sketches for the portrait or caricature and send them off via email. We'll go back and forth via email or phone, discussing tweaking and revising the sketches until you are 100% happy with the look of the art.
During the sketch stage I will be sending sketches and in-progress work to you via e-mail. Timely replies and feedback helps to keep the creative process moving along quickly. At the end of this stage, the sketch will look pretty close to what it will look like as the final line art (black and white art) and I will use this as a template to create the final art piece. Alternatively I will provided you with a photographic ‘proof’ of exactly what I will draw, before I begin the portrait, so you’ll know exactly what you’re getting.

Once the final artpiece is approved, an invoice for the balance due will be sent. Once this is paid, the finall artpiece will be sent out to you by secure courier.

Things I need

Portraits and Caricatures are drawn from photographs.  Thus, Recent good quality, high resolution pictures are very important to build up a good profile of the subject, remember that I’ve never met them, so the pictures and information you provide are essential for a good work of art.

Things I need
At least three recent photos which are a good likeness taken in good light (daylight is best) emailed at a good resolution. Nice smiley shots are the best for caricatures.  Please specify the eye and hair colour.

How long does it take?
The portrait or caricature usually takes about from 4 to 8 weeks - dependent on my commission workload. Invariably I have a waiting list so please order well before you require it. I love to take my time over your artwork so ‘rush’ jobs will also incur an extra charge.
